Pachamama Spiritual Circle
at Gaia's Peace Garden in Iowa City, Iowa

Creating a Despacho at Gaia's Peace Garden
Spending time in a ritual space has become foreign to our everyday lives. But somewhere deep within us, many of us long to connect to the sacredness of ritual ceremony and personal connection to Nature. Pachamama is the word for Mother Earth from the Peruvian tradition. We welcome you to join us in community at Gaia's Peace Garden to deepen our relationship with Mother Earth in the Pachamama Spiritual Circle. We will join together to share in a group ritual and then end our evening around the fire, sharing about where our personal paths have lead us, and sharing songs that touch us.
Pachamama Spiritual Circle
3 Part Fall Sunday Series-2016
"Creating Altars to Illuminate our
Soul's Connection to the Mystery."
Oct. 23, 2016, Sunday, 1-3:30pm,
Merging with the Elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, & Mystery
There is a song, "Touch Down the Earth, Reach To the Sky, Open up to the Water, Jump into the Fire." We will walk the paths of Gaia's searching for these elements
both physically and figuratively, and then create a group altar of the Elements in order to aid us in practicing a mindful synergy with them on a conscious level.
Please bring: a special small container or bowl to hold water, any sacred water that you may have collected on your journeys, any feathers that want to come to represent air, a candle in a small votive container that we can light, any statue or other item that you use to donate the Great Mystery.
Oct. 30, 2016, Sunday, 1-3:30pm,
Day of the Dead-Honoring our Ancestors
We will create a group altar to honor our family members and friends who have died, as as well as a way to honor our ancestors from the past. Each person will have some time to share a story or memory about one of their relatives with the group. Please bring as many items from the list below that you want in order to create a beautiful group altar.
Please bring: photos and mementoes of family members or friends that you
would like to honor, flowers (marigolds are traditional, but any will do), favorite foods/beverages of loved ones, a candle in a small votive container that we can light, and sugar skulls.
For some people this may be a space for grieving, your grieving is welcome here, my own
father past away in March and I wanted to create a space for grief to be shared in any form
and honored.
Nov. 6th, Sunday, 1-3:30pm (note: Daylight Savings Time),
Timelessness
Is time an illusion? Sometimes it feels like time is running our lives and the pressure feels overwhelming. Yet in quiet moments or meditation it may feel like time doesn't exist at all. Have we lived in other times? Can we connect with
those faces of times past? How do we call in the moment and allow ourselves to truly be there?
Please bring: a hand held mirror (bigger is better than smaller for this),
a candle in a small votive container that we can light, a notebook and pen,
any of these stones that you may already have: Amethyst, Carnelian, Double Terminated Quartz, Hematite, Lapis Lazuli, and Petrified Wood (you do not need to buy these, whatever the group brings as a whole will be perfect.), and a small
cloth to place your stones on.
Cost: Free Will Love Offering (give whatever your heart guides you to give). You are
welcome to attend 1 or all 3 events, you do not need to pre-register or RSVP.
Tea-We will have hot water available to make fresh tea from the herbs at Gaia's Garden. Please bring your own travel mug. There is a huge variety of herbs to choose from!
What else to bring? Please bring layers of clothes so you will be comfortable no matter what the weather.
Time: Please arrive at 12:50pm so that we can start our time together at 1pm. Although people can still join our circle after 1pm, it is preferred when creating a group ritual to start together without interruptions. Thank you for best attempts.
If you would like to show up earlier than 12:50pm, you are always welcome to wander around Gaia's Garden and connect to the energy of the land. You may want to walk the Labyrinth or walk the paths and enjoy the abundance of plants growing. You do not need permission to enter Gaia's Garden at any time.
Where: Gaia's Peace Garden, 2066 Bristol Dr., Iowa City
Sometimes people have gotten lost getting here, since Bristol Dr. is separated into two different sections. There are directions at the bottom of this page
.
Weather-I know it is late in the season to be having outdoor events but I am feeling like it is worth a try, because this past weekend was warm and wonderful. I am planning on having a weather update on this page of this website. If it rains, I will just cancel it and note it at the top of this page. If there is chance of rain but not raining at 12:30pm I will go ahead with it and take the chance. If it is cold and windy and miserable out, I will cancel it. I am open to the fact that it may need to be cancelled but also open to the fact that all 3 dates will work out great!

-Location: Gaia's Peace Garden is located at 2066 Bristol Dr., Iowa City, Iowa.
Directions:
Important: There are some people who have had a very hard time finding this place. One of the reasons for this is that many of the streets to get there wind around so there is an entrance and exit for the same street name in two different locations. Also some streets dead end and finish the rest of the street in a different location. There are also 2 different streets called Dubuque Rd. that can be turned onto from North Dodge St. They actually connect in an arch shape, but this is confusing when following the directions. It would be helpful to look at the Google Map below before driving to this location to have a sense of all the streets, you can move the view larger or smaller for a clearer picture of the roads.
-If you are driving north on North Dodge St. go passed the new Hyvee, and the old Hyvee
and make the first left onto Dubuque Rd. (not to be confused with Dubuque St. which is in
another location).
(If you accidentally pass Dubuque Rd. you will come to Bristol Dr., do not turn onto this road, although it is the
name of the street that Gaia's Garden is on, it is best to turn around and go back to Dubuque St. and follow the
directions here to avoid confusion.)
Once you are on Dubuque St. go for .3 miles on Dubuque St. and make a left turn onto
Oakes Dr.
Make an immediate right turn on Quincent St. (not to be confused with Quincent Court
which comes up soon after the turn).
Go .1 miles on Quincent St. and make a left onto Bristol Dr.
Go down the street and it will dead end into a circle. Gaia's Peace Garden is on the right side
of the street, you can't miss it.
-If you are driving south from Rt. 80 on North Dodge St. you will turn right on the first
Dubuque Rd. (do not take Bristol Dr. which is the next street). Then turn right onto Oakes
Dr. Then turn right onto Quincent St. Then turn left onto Bristol Dr. You will drive to the
end of the street into a dead end with a circle. Gaia's Garden will be on your right side, you
can't miss it.
Also, although you can turn onto Bristol Dr. from North Dodge St., it changes names to two other streets before the name changes back to Bristol Dr. where the actual Gaia's Peace Garden is located. I would not advise taking the turn onto Bristol Dr. from North Dodge since that causes more confusion.
Good luck and we look forward to meeting you at Gaia's Peace Garden.
You can print these directions to take with you on your journey, they are written out in the PDF below.
