Birth and Death Ceremonies
Birth Ceremony: Welcoming Your Child into the World
There are many parents these days who do not feel comfortable welcoming their baby into the world with the same rituals (such as baptism or bris) as their ancestors. Since there can be a reluctance to do a ceremony that one doesn't believe in, many families just choose to do nothing. The exception to this may be the traditional baby shower, yet it is usually focused on gift giving and not really on honoring the very soul that has come into the world. Although new parents often yearn for "something", they are often unsure of what that "something" would even look like.
What many families do not realize is that they can still create a beautiful ceremony to honor their child, with a little bit of planning and soul searching, about what they do believe in. This sacred ceremony is just as valid, as a traditional ritual, but instead of replicating the past, it delves deep into the parents' present value system and beliefs.
Adina can help families create this ceremony through a process of reflection on their core values and spiritual beliefs. She will also offer a range of ideas to create rituals for the new baby and provide ideas about structuring the ceremony. Adina's intention is to empower the parents to create and lead their own ceremony for their baby. Occasionally when couples feel it is necessary, Adina will "preside" over the welcoming ceremony with the family.
When Adina's son Raven was born, 8 years ago, she and her husband created a welcoming ceremony for him (pictured above).
COST
$60 for Two Hours to create the Birth Ceremony with Adina
This may be a gift you would like to give to someone you know who is expecting.

Death Ceremony: A Shamanic Final Rites (Transition for the Soul)
"Rituals help to heal the pain of letting go while
at the same time connecting us with something
much greater than earthly concerns."
-Alberto Villoldo (www.dyingconsciously.org)
There are many people these days who do not feel comfortable or drawn toward the kind of funeral services that are traditionally being offered. A Shamanic Final Rites ceremony (which is based in part on the Peruvian Shamanic Lineage, shared byAlberto Villoldo) is for those people who are looking for a sacred, intentional, and conscious energetic separation from their physical body at death.
First, if the person is still alive, and very close to death, an Illumination can be performed on him or her to cleanse the hucha (heavy energy) from their Energetic Body before death. (Click for a further description of hucha (heavy energy) in What is Shamanism? and a further description of the Illumination process in Your Personal Session.)
In addition, an Aya Despacho can be created with the dying person and his/her family/friends. The despacho is a prayer bundle that symbolically represents various parts of the dying person's life. The despacho is a way to help the dying person and the family create a physical ritual to honor the dying person's experiences and to assist them in letting go. As a symbol of transformation the despacho is burned in a fire ceremony in honor and reverence for the person's life.
(This is traditionally done with the dying person, but if they have already died this can also be done with the family alone.)
If the person has already died, the Illumination Process would not occur, instead a ceremony to release the Luminous Energy Field during the Final Rites will be performed. A full description of this ceremony can be explained in person or on the phone. It is essential to have the individual's permission to perform the Illumination and/or the Final Rites on him or her at death. A part of the final ceremony is open ended and can be co-created with Adina before the person dies, or with the family after the person dies. Adina can also create the ceremony on her own so that those who are grieving do not have to.
The ceremony will have the release of the Luminous Energy Field as a main component, but songs will be added, and if there are some that are particular favorites of the dying person they will be included. In addition there will be drumming, a sacred alter will be created and for some dancing is also appropriate.
Ideally the Final Rites are performed on the body right after the individual dies and no later than 40 hours after death.
COST
Illumination Process: $60 for a 2 hour session (This may need to be repeated more than once to fully illuminate all 7 chakras. All 7 chakras are only illuminated at the time of death.)
(This would only be performed if the person is still alive.)
Aya Despacho: A small donation will be accepted for this service. (appox. 3 hours)
Final Death Rites Ceremony: It is up to the family, friends, or the individual to decide what they would like to pay for this service. Any amount is accepted.
